We were soon allied in the Freshman Class of the A.H.S., with the spirit of good fellowship which has manifested itself continuously in the Sophomore Class. It was evident, from the keen interest shown at our first class meeting, that an active high school class was being organized. Louise Roderick was elected President, by the Class' good judgment. We enjoyed the distinction of being the winners of the flag-rush of 1915-1916, when our pennant waved victoriously from the top of the flagpole longer than any other class banner, our main enemy being the Sophs. Our high school athletics started with "lots of pep" in the Freshman Class, with Ernest McLellan as center; Frank Bryrm, right tackle, and Draper Orr, guard, on the high school football team. Then again "Mack" and Byrum showed their athletic ability on a champion basket-ball team, with "Mack" center, and Byrum, guard. At the Valley Track Meet, the same two athletes took part in several events. We must make mention of our Class reader, Louise Roderick, who, as a Freshman, won second place in Declamatory at Saguache. There were a few more contestants of our Class who took part in the preliminary contest this year who showed ability. Class parties brought us into renewed friendship which has cemented the membership into a unit. The Sophomore year was a continuation of the success of our first year. Jack Rose and Ernest Knutzen contested for the Class leadership, "Tuff" winning by the same good judgment which was shown in 1915. This second year started with a new superintendent. Mr. Aylard, who has proved to be a worthy leader, taking interest in all activities. This year class supervisors were appointed, and we have the honor of announcing our "guardian angel," Miss Leiphimer, who has steered our ship successfully through many stormy waters. Our athletic success was again continued with the same football players, and a few "try-outs" on a champion team. In basket-ball we introduced into the game two more players, Emerson Jones and Jack Rose besides the never-failing "Mack" and Byrum. As this Annual was put out before the Valley Track Meet was held, we were not able to give our success on this line but we are sure of a few class entrants. As this closes our history so far, we must "leave to time the rest."
