discharged at Fort Garland about 20 years from this date.

p.m. Age 63 years, 6 mo. He was born April 7, 1837. Buried Oct 29, 1900 at 5:00 p.m. Services at cemetery by Masons of which he
was a member. Cause of death: typhoid
fever. He died at Chas Hildreth
house. Nothing is known of
relatives. Buried in Sec 1, Block 1,
Lot 3.
Died Friday evening Nov 2, 1900 at 5:00 p.m. Buried in G. A. R. Lot 14, Sec 1, Block 9 on
Nov 3, Saturday by the G. A. R. and Masonic Lodge #44 A.F.&A.M> of which
he was a member. He was an old soldier
and served in the 1st Colo Reg’t and was a member of Pfeiffer Post
#36, Alamosa. Died of Brights
Disease. Deceased was 64 years old and
has no relatives in the U. S.
Died at Salida hospital Wednesday morning Nov 21,
1900 at 6:30 a.m. Buried in the Alamosa
Cemetery, Nov 23 at 3:00 p.m. in Lot 16, Sec 2, Block 8. She leaves a husband and two boys aged 5 and
3 years. He is an operator in the Supt.
4th division’s office D&RGRR.
Cause of death: thrombosis or clotted blood in the veins of the
leg. Age 35 years, 4 mo.
Died at Salida, Colo Tuesday morning Nov 20,
1900. Buried in the Alamosa Cemetery on
Nov 22, 1900 under the auspices of the Brotherhood of Railway Fireman of which
he was a member, being a fireman on the 3rd division of
D&RGRR. He was killed while taking
the train over Marshall Pass. He leaves
a wife and two children. Buried in F.

Died Jan 10, 1901 in Oliver’s Saloon in Alamosa on
Thursday night Jan 10, 1901. Died a
natural death from the effects of whiskey.

McLaren, W. B.
Died Jan 23, 1901 at Monte Vista, Colo. Buried by the Alamosa Camp No 21 of W. O. W.
on Jan 24, 1901 in Sec 1, Block 9, Lot 1 of the Alamosa Cemetery. He died of a broken blood vessel in his head
caused by violent vomiting. He was
about 46 years old and leaves a wife and two children, age 3 and 5 in
California. He was the organizer of the
Woodman band and was a thorough musician.
He was also a member of the Yuncrdio Lodge No 163 A.F.&A.M. of
Rochester, NY.
Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Malmburg. Died Saturday Feb 2, 1901. Buried in the Alamosa Cemetery on Tuesday
Feb 5, 1901 in Sec 1, Block 7, Lot 7.
Age 3 days. In Oct 13, 1902 this
body was transferred to Sec 1, Block 2, Lot 5 – the Malburg family plot.
Died Thursday evening Feb 21, 1901. Buried in A. C. A. on Monday Feb 25, 1901 at
1:30 p.m. in Sec 1, Block 3, Lot 16. He
was killed by a switch engine in the Alamosa yards while switching on the night
crew. He was 44 years old and was the
son of O. B. Brown, a painter and paper hanger, who has lived in Alamosa for
years. Buried under the auspices of
pioneer Lodge No 108, B of L. F. of which he was a member. He was a single man. Had a sister living in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Died Thursday afternoon Mar 7, 1901. Buried on Sunday mar 10, 1901 at 2 p.m.
under the auspices of Pioneer Lodge 108, B of L. F. He was 37 years old and leaves a wife and 2 children and a
mother, Mrs. Hirst, and sister, Mrs. Shone.
He was killed on the Chile Line.
He was engineer of a light engine and in going down the hill hit a
broken rail and threw the engine off the track, killing him instantly. He was buried in the W. H. Hirst Lot – Sec
2, Block 8, Lot 13. He was a resident
of Alamosa since he was a child.

Wife of John Jones Smith. Died Thursday morning March 12, 1901 at
12:40 a.m. Buried in the Alamosa
Cemetery on Mar 13, 1901 at 3:00 p.m. in Sec 1, Block 5, Lot 1. Cause of death: cancer. She was operated on in the Salida hospital
and died shortly after bringing her home.

Son of D. H. Shaffer. Died at San Luis, Colo Tuesday Mar 12, 1901 at 5:00 p.m. Buried in the Alamosa Cemetery on Mar 14 at
3:00 p.m. in Sec 1, Block 5, Lot 8.
Funeral services at the house 6 miles SE of town where his parents
live. Was 6 years old and died of after
effects of scarlet fever and croup.
Died Friday Mar 15, 1901 at 5:30 a.m. Buried in the Alamosa Cemetery on Sunday mar
17, 1901 at 12:00 p.m. He was about 65
years old and leaves a wife, 2 sons, and 4 daughters. Mrs. Mullins, Lewis, and Goodall. Cause of death: He got up in the morning and told his wife he ws
going to the stable to feed the horses (on his ranch 10 miles northwest of
Alamosa) where he drew a .44 calibre revolver he had concealed, put the barrel
in his mouth, and shot himself. He was
killed instantly. Buried in Sec 2,
Block 5, Lot 14. He was known by the
name of Frank Dorris and had lived in the Valley for about 25 years.
Died about 1:00 a.m. Monday morning Mar 25,
1901. Buried in Sec 2, Block 7, Lot 9
in Alamosa Cemetery on Mar 27, 1901 at 1:00 p.m. He was 56 years old and a brother of Hans Johannsen. It is supposed he died of heart disease as
he didn’t complain of feeling bad.

Alamosa Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. April 12, 1901 inSEc 2, Block 2, Lot 8.

in Sec 1, Block 2, Lot 1 on June 19, 1901 at 12:00 noon. Age 21 years. He and a young man went from Mosca to the lakes fishing and the
boat capsized and the two boys drowned.
The body wasn’t discovered until 7 days after when it rose to the
surface. He was a member of W. O. W. of
Mosca.
Brother of E. E. Austin of Mosca, Colo. Drowned in the San Luis Lakes on Saturday,
June 8, 1901. Buried in the Alamosa
Cemetery on Wednesday June 19, 1901 in Sec 1, Block 2, Lot 1. He was drowned while fishing with Harry
Carlton Verback. The body came to the
surface after 10 days. Age 27 years.

and eyes and mouth were closed.

Grande River about 100 yards below the Costilla County bridge on the night of
Mar 9, 1905 while in an intoxicated state and was not found until Mar 25, 1905
at 3:30 p.m. and was buried at 5:30 p.m. of the same day. The county paid all expenses, she being a
pauper without finances or money.

killed instantly by his engine turning over about 6 miles out of Silverton,
Colo. He was badly scalded after
death. He leaves a wife who lives in
Silverton, and sons and daughters to mourn his death. He was well known and had resided in Alamosa for along time up to
the last year.
